Vege Dragon Roll
Great lunch specials and fast and friendly service is what keeps me and my co-workers coming back to Ami Sushi. Not to mention the delicious and creative sushi rolls 🙂
While it might not look like much on the outside, Ami Sushi provides a unique atmosphere with open seating in the center, a sushi bar that overlooks the dining area and lots of private seating. The decor is all about creating a Japanese dining experience and they accomplish that well with the room structures and little nic naks around the space. Great for a date, dinner with friends or family or even a working meal (as I often have here).
The service is fast and friendly. As I dine here often, the waitress (Mimi) or her daughter know my order without me having to say much other than “the usual”. They make sure that our glasses are always filled with either water or tea and the food starts coming out fairly quickly after we order it. They are also great at clearing finished dishes which I very much appreciate. Overall they do a solid job every time I dine there.
Ami offers some great lunch specials and I always end up ordering the roll set which comes with a miso soup and salad. The salad dressing is ginger based and packs incredible flavours. If I could replicate this dressing at home, I would definitely be eating a lot more greens (hey, I may try that). The miso soup is pretty standard – I’ve never really found much difference when it comes to soups at Japanese restaurants) – but delicious and filling with its generous size.
With the lunch special, I get my choice of two rolls from a list – vegetarian for me, of course. The first one I pick is the simple Avocado Roll. Only vibrant, fresh avocado is served and the size is very generous. Always a satisfying roll.
The second roll I choose is the Vege Dragon Roll, which consists of eggplant rolled in the sushi rice, topped with avocado, bean curd, mayo and crispy thin potato pieces. The roll is very flavourful and beautifully presented and I love the different textures, mainly thanks to the topping. It is one of my favourite vegetarian rolls anywhere that I have had the pleasure of eating!
While we never order dessert. When the check arrives at the table, so do segmented oranges with mini forks to dive into. A perfect refreshing, sweet treat after a meal.
Ami provides many vegetarian options on their menu, so I never have any challenges finding something to eat. Even their lunch specials have a good variety of vegetarian selections.
For the miso soup, salad, 2 rolls (1 regular and 1 special), oranges and all the green tea I can drink, the bill comes to $13.95 at lunch time, which I find more than reasonable for the amount of food I eat.
