Columns and arches are placed around the room, dividing sections and giving a Greek inspired feel. Mezes is family friendly and great for large groups or parties (not somewhere I would probably go on a romantic, intimate date with my husband…more casual dining). Lots of natural light coming in and plenty of comfortable seating. Never feel on top of your neighbour at the next table!
Service was pretty good. They did an overall good job and tried to get our food to us quick. They were polite and brought a birthday baklava over to our table for mine and my best friend’s birthday. I also liked that they had no problem with me switching one of the dips so I could make my main vegetarian. They did forget 2 side salads, but as soon as we reminded them it quickly came out.
Every year for my best friend and mine birthday we come to Mezes with our families to celebrate all together. I order the same thing each time, which is a small dip platter (includes Tzatziki, Taramosalata, Homous, and Melitzanosalata, but I switch out the Taramosalata with Tirokafteri which is a spicy feta dip). All the dips taste so good on their own, but they taste even better when you mix them all together with one of their delicious hot seasoned pitas! I usually get a double order of pita and just enjoy the dipping. My husband I and also shared the fried zucchini, which was served with a side of tzatziki. It was ok, but could have used more seasoning. And my mom got the lamb chops and couldn’t stop raving about them!
We were surprised with a piece of baklava with a candle in it by the waiter for our birthday. This one reminded me a lot of a fruit cake in terms of the strength of spices. If you really enjoy strong powerful flavours you will really enjoy this one! The syrup is plentiful and the berries add a great acidic touch!
There is actually a whole menu section called vegetarian with many many options! And best yet, it is right in the beginning of the menu…not stuck at the very back. It’s a bit of a carbo load if you are a vegetarian, but who doesn’t enjoy that ever now and again.
This is a mid-high price point restaurant. You can really control it thought…plenty of food for less on the menu and lots of really top end food for more. I think it is more fun to get sharing dishes to try lots of different things, but this can of course lead to spending without realizing it. I think it is pretty reasonably priced for quality food!
