5 Stars – I go every year, twice a year!
So you may be wondering why a review of the One of a Kind Show is showing up on a food blog. Well, to be honest, one of the main reasons I go to this show is for the one of a kind food! In fact, I typically don’t eat dinner before heading over, because the samples are so plentiful that I leave feeling full. And this year they had some amazing looking food trucks as well including Mexican, Indian, crepes, Greek, and of course pizza.
Some good tips to keep in mind when going:
- Buying online is cheaper! You will typically save $2 by making your purchase ahead of time
- Thursday nights they usually have Free Parking at the Exhibition Place in the evening.
- Thursday is the best day to go as the show is open the latest, they have contests and it tends to be much less crowded than the weekend
- Bringing a back pack will help you carry all your amazing purchases
- Pretty much all the vendors takes credit cards now using Square technology, but it is a good idea to have cash on you as well
- Plan to stay a while! There are so many incredible vendors that you might end up wandering for 4 hours like I did
Here are the vendors that I ended up purchasing from and would suggest you visit too!
1) Edna’s Pickles
Delicious pickled vegetables and chutney’s, I picked myself up a jar of the Hot Eggplant. You can taste the authentic Indian spices and the subtle heat is what I’m all about
2) Jaswant’s Kitchen
It doesn’t take much to make a dish flavourful when you use Jaswant’s spices. Last year I discovered this incredible product and was thrilled to see they made another appearance at this year’s OOAKS. I bought the Garam Masala last year and still had some, but needed to pick up another jar of Tadka Masala. All you need is red lentils, water, these two spices and you will soon be sipping on a delicious bowl of daal. Do yourself a favour and visit this booth!
3) Nutra-Fruit Cranberry
Literally every year, twice a year, I head over to this Quebec Cranberry booth to pick up my bags of cranberries and delicious salad dressing. They are perfect to just snack on or throw on a salad. They typically have a 3 for $20 special so I take advantage of that.
4) Voisin’s Maple Products
Holy Maple Syrup! This might be my favourite purchase of the show each year. My typical go to is the Maple Apricot Red Pepper jelly. I put this on crackers, cheese, sometimes I just eat it by the spoonful, it’s just that good. This year I also bought the Maple Garlic Sauce, which they suggest mixing into mashed potatoes…um yes please!
5) Miel Morand
This was a new product line for me (but apparently not new to the show). They offer many incredible honey based products and more. The woman was extremely generous and gave my friend and I very generous samples of literally every item they carry…and they were all so good it made my decision on what to buy that much harder! I finally ended up choosing the Lime & Coriander Vinaigrette (probably one of the best salad dressings I have had in my life) and the Maple Peach Jam (chunks of peaches…the best). 100% worth visiting this booth
6) Incredible Spread Em’
Last year I bought a small size of the garlic spread and I will never make that mistake again. It lasts a long time in the fridge and is perfect to add some extra garlic deliciousness to any dish! Get the medium…I promise you won’t regret it!
Honestly I would have spent a ton more money here if I could, as there are so many talented artists/culinary delights. Be sure to go down the aisles slowly, take advantage of the samples and support these local vendors! The One of a Kind Show to me is a highlight each year.
